Computer as Tool, Tutor and Tutee (9am-12pm)
Our class was introduced to new topic this morning. A computer concept which society must have known by now, 'Computer as a tool, tutor and tutee' was the topic we discussed for our own knowledge and information. The purpose of computer is undeniably important in education. A computer plays various roles in student's life which basically makes us as a student cannot live without the technology. Teachers have to start preparing students for the hands on, task oriented world for the future economy. It is important to transform computer as a facilitator and not just as a tool. From my understanding, a computer can be a tool when teachers use it for sharing and presenting their information and ideas to students using some computer applications such as PowerPoint and Prezi. Meanwhile, students use computer software and programs for completing their task and tutorial. As a tutor, computer takes over the role of a teacher but not completely. Computer helps in learning process, it is used for delivering information as well as giving instruction to students. Last but not least, technology is now a fundamental part of our society and programs like Weebly and Adobe Flash, are only the tip of using computer as a tutee. Students and teachers maay free transform their creative ideas into an instructional games, website and presentation tools which not only let the computer works as a tutee but both students and teachers can become digitally literate.
Course Management System (CMS), Learning Management System (LMS) & Content Management System (3pm-6pm)
In the class this afternoon, my coursemates and I critically discussed the use of Course Managemnet System (CMS), Learning Management System (LMS) and Content Managemnet System. Dr Fariza led the discussion where we openly discussed and share our ideas and thoughts about CMS and LMS. These management systems have been widely used and generally created by society on the Internet for many purposes. The differences between CMS and LMS were identified so that we could use the systems without mixing them up in the future.
After the lengthy discussion, we were asked to do the report based on the topic by using Google Doc. We formed five different groups, which each consisted of three members to do the assignment 2 together. I am in a group with my coursemates, Shazana and Shakira and we created a document together using our Gmail account to discuss effectively among one another. Besides brainstorming, we learnt how to share important ideas and information using Google Doc. It was amazing creating document which all of us are able to type the information at the same time using different laptops. We could even chat using chatbox that is one of Google Doc tools, so that the group work becomes easier to do. I was thrilled to know the Google tools as it was fascinating to use.
